Philosophy

At Interbay Veterinary Care Center, we are committed to developing meaningful relationships with our clients and their pets, while providing a personable, advanced level of care through dedicated and compassionate service.  We know that your pet is a member of your family, and we understand the indescribably wonderful bond that you share.  Our intent is to nurture, support, and protect that bond through in-depth communication with you, and medical excellence for your pet.  You can expect a detailed discussion about preventative care and illness, while your pet will experience the best of modern, thorough, and caring veterinary treatment.

Your pet's health is our number one priority, and when you choose us as your veterinary team a partnership is born that will result in nothing but the safest, most complete, and current medical care for your pet.  At IVCC we love what we do, we take great pride in our work, and we promise to present you and your pet with a medical provider experience unlike any you have had elsewhere.

Steve K. Coffin, DVM

Owner of IVCC

Originally from California, Dr. Coffin attended the University of Montana for undergraduate training, receiving bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Zoology.  He went on to earn his doctorate, in 1994, from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  He immediately moved to Washington and has practiced in the Puget Sound Region ever since.  Dr. Coffin became the third owner of Interbay Veterinary Care Center in 1997.  In addition to clinical medicine, he serves as a court-recognized expert witness for the Washington State Department of Health, providing expert opinion on cases where the Department seeks to maintain high quality health care for pets in Washington State.  He feels very privileged to own and be a part of a progressive and ethical medical facility, and is humbled and thankful for the wonderful clients that make IVCC possible.

Veronica Mayorga, LVT

A California native, Veronica moved to the Northwest in 1997 to begin her college education.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Seattle University in 2001.  Although her initial intent was to become a veterinarian, she realized early on that her heart was in patient care and changed her career to veterinary nursing.  She has been providing tender and loving care for the patients of Interbay Veterinary Care Center since 2001, and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2006.  As an integral and vital member of our team, Veronica helped develop, and believes strongly in, the progressive philosophy of IVCC.  With seemingly endless energy and an always-positive attitude, she oversees and maintains the cohesive relationships we share with clients and coworkers, while always making time to share a piece of her heart with each and every patient.

Join Our Team

We love people.  And of course we love pets, too.  Our team members understand that every pet is loved by a family of people, and often those people don’t understand what we do, how we are different, and why that difference is so important to their pet’s health.  We are in the business of teaching people about medicine, in addition to patient care, and we spend as much time as is necessary to answer our client’s questions and address their concerns.  Veterinary medicine is a ‘people’ business first.

If you love people, we are always interested in talking to potential new team members!  We practice high-end, thorough medicine, and enjoy developing personable and informative relationships with our clients.  We focus on continuing education and our goal is to consistently integrate better and safer treatment protocols in to our practice.  We do not cut corners and call it ‘value’ - we practice real, by-the-book, modern and complete veterinary medicine.  Our hospital is well outfitted, and our medical equipment is of the highest quality, and regularly updated - we believe that using the best equipment allows us to provide the safest and best treatment for our patients, and the best working quality of life for our employees.

If you love thorough and in-depth veterinary medicine, truly enjoy interacting with people, and accept the challenge of life long learning, we want to talk with you.  Please forward your resume, and cover letter explaining who you are and how you can contribute to a stronger medical team.  We look forward to meeting you!

Hospital Assistants

Hospital Assistants work closely with veterinary technicians and doctors to provide client service and patient care.  Our assistants are also responsible for keeping our hospital clean, organized, and in good working order by maintaining medical equipment, treatment work areas, and supplies.  Most importantly, our Hospital Assistants perform a primary role in making sure your pet feels comfortable and loved while in our care.

Mariesa Smith, Hospital Assistant
Mariesa grew up on a farm, surrounded by animals, in Washougal, Washington.  She is currently a senior at the University of Washington, and will soon earn her degree in Human Resources Management.  Beyond college, Mariesa is looking forward to a career as a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.  She is a member of the 'Friends of King County Animals' non-profit organization, which benefits animals in need around Seattle.  Mariesa spends her spare time rock climbing, horseback riding, and playing sports.

Derrick HenricksonDerrick Henrickson, Hospital Assistant
Derrick joined us in March of 2015.  He has always had an interest in working with animals, and after an opportunity to care for people's pets at IVCC, Derrick is now planning to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  He is an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, enjoys hiking with his Pomeranian, Romeo, trying new restaurants with friends, and playing video games.  Patients under Derrick's care are routinely comforted by his outgoing expressions of love and affection.

Kennel Support Managers

Elena Barker and Shannon Dolezal take wonderful care of our boarding guests, and while many of our clients may not know their faces, our boarders are thrilled to see them every day.

Elena Barker, Weekend Manager
Elena recently graduated from the University of Washington with her degree in Psychology, focusing on animal behavior. She has always enjoyed working with animals and finds it very rewarding. Elena has volunteered in several animal shelters, treating each animal with respect and care, while helping them to find excellent homes. Elena makes a difference in each pet’s life that she comes into contact with. Her calm and patient approach allows her to give each pet plenty of attention and make sure they are content and well cared for in the absence of their owners.

Shannon Dolezal, Weekday Manager
Shannon joined IVCC in 2014 and enjoys the opportunity to get to know our patient's individual personalities.  She is a student, and is considering a future in veterinary medicine.  Her home is shared with many pets, including a ferret, two dogs, and two cats.  In addition to her work, Shannon enjoys being with friends, seeking Seattle's best miso soup, and spending time with her pets and yours!
